Socel considers participating in #Monsterdon an incessant posting rules violation even though I clearly announce my participation and use the #Monsterdon tag on every Monsterdon post I make so it's easily filtered out. That's a ridiculous stance to me so have moved to a server that's not a killer of joy and understands what filters are for.

Movies like Them! portray cops, scientists, the FBI and military all working together to protect civil society. It shows a system that works and is capable of meeting serious threats, so that Joe Public doesn't have to worry about them. The reality? Not so much these days.

Another #Monsterdon is in the can!

Thanks to @Taweret for hosting!

Tonight's feature, #TheRaven , from 1963, was another Roger Corman film. Ties to the Edgar Allen Poe piece were superficial at best, with Richard Matheson (the screenplay writer) choosing to take a comedic view to the project. The film was shot in only fifteen days, and contained a large amount of ad-libbed lines, mostly from Peter Lorre. Highlights included:

Vincent Price!Talking raven!Magic potion stew!Diabolical Mind Control!Raspberry Jam!Precious Viper!Finger Manipulation Battle!

Legacy
In synthesizers, a "patch" is kind of like a recipe for a sound or set of sounds. Synthesist Todd Barton coined a synth patch that many modular synthesists make at least once, named after the Krell in the film Forbidden Planet and trying to achieve the same vibe as those "electronic tonalities" by Louis and Bebe. There are many versions of the Krell Patch around. The patch consists of sources of random voltage and feedback loops

I love how the social commentary in this (and also in Poltergeist) is that your house can literally be a hellmouth and emit weird lights, terrible sounds, tons of human screams, and even fireworks, and none of your neighbors will notice or care

OOOH! OOOH!

there was a disclaimer at the end of the movie about the work at the pyramids.

i have the feeling they got money from the Mexican government to film educational movies about Nahuatl myths —hence the really high quality of the historical 'footage'. the clothing, jewelry, makeup are really close to what i have seen in actual 15th century Nahuatl codices.

so they probably shot those, completed the assignment, and with whatever was left they made this movie.

Fortunately I am prepared to be very comfortably seated for the film in a couple of minutes.

NONONONO y'all doing it wrong. tell people the only hashtags to follow on Mastodon are and the sunday special of .

once we trap them with dopamine hits of doggies, kitties, and laugh-worthy sci-fi movies, then we show them the "serious business" hashtags and show them how to counter-balance all the "serious business" badness of the world with dopamine hits of furbabies & silly movies.

And then our heroes fucked off into space! That movie did not know what it wanted to be. A serious derelict space station movie? A goofy dark comedy? A movie with actual Critters in it? Yes, apparently, just yes.

G'night #monsterdon! Give a nod to @Taweret for hosting and see y'all next week!

Dr. Who and the Daleks (1966)

"Dr. Who accidently sends himself and his granddaughters to the mysterious planet Skaro where they do battle against the Daleks."

I'm not sure about the trailer because Google says THIS movie is the sequel to the 1965 one but the the title is different so I'm confused but its this one. we're doing this one. the one on tubi

#monsterdon imagine if Ghostbusters had the 4 guys come down from the roof covered in marshmallow fluff, greet the cheering crowd,

and then another Stay Puft appeared across town, and they went over there and killed that one, and afterwards Venkman had a conversation with Dana about the future of their relationship, and then Gozer escaped into the sewers or whatever

While renting Godzilla (1998) at the video store just now for I had the immense pleasure of overhearing a heartfelt and passionately delivered soliloquy about how one of the staff hates horses because they "look weird" and are "just deeply untrustworthy".

"That's strange, I always vaguely figured that you would like horses!"

"See, and that is just a deeply insulting statement right there. How dare you."

(moments later the shop TVs started playing a B&W horse racing movie)

26, CLASH OF THE TITANS (1981)!

A generally-inspired-by-Greek-myth story which is kinda-sorta inspired by the tale of Perseus, plot-wise it's kind of a mess. But the special effects, whooooo boy, that's worth the price of admission. It's Ray Harryhausen's final work and he is firing on ALL CYLINDERS. Little metal owls, giant kraken, MULTIPLE monsters, all of them amazing. Seriously, go watch it. Ignore the plot, it's not worth the effort.

On Halloween, I released a new short film, Lajok The Night Dancer. ICYMI, here it is again, a revenge fantasy where dance, instead of guns or karate, enables the main character to get justice. It's based on the most popular character in Ugandan mythology. This is a small thread about the making of this film and you can enjoy it free on my #PeerTube channel @dilmandila@tv.dilstories.com

#monsterdon Funny that the scientist lady never learned it was her gater.

When we met the mom, I was sure she was going to say something.

Or scientist lady would notice a marking or something.

Weird that she had that connection to the monster and it didn't matter at all.
