A new Mastodon server, and so a new #introduction.

Since most of the info-sec people I follow are on here, I figured I'd get closer to the horse's mouth.

I don't talk a whole lot on my actual timeline. I do boost a lot of things that I find interesting: security, politics, comedy, or possibly surrealism. Mix and match as I see fit.

Personally: Unapologetic Leftist and Social Justice type of dude.

Professionally: I became a web monkey because my buddy Zach had a university web page, and I knew I could make one that was cooler than his was. Fast-forward through Perl, building Apache from source, PHP, msql, MySQL, C#, SQL Server, Other Things in between, and then circling back to PHP to earn a paycheck. :shrug: It's led me to a place where I can draw good lines between life and work, even though I get paranoid enough about my systems that I'm gunning for a security engineer position.

I'm also semi regular during #Monsterdon, so... You may want to per-emptively filter that tag on Sundays. Or join us! The more the merrier!

wait actually she says this in her opening expository dialogue so fast you probably missed it. she is here for two reasons, to get a man, and also to test the metal that her ship is made of, and explicitly says that it being too unstable is an option and if so they will just send more spaceships. so in the text of the movie the sacrificed man actually didn't destroy the thing at all, it just self destructed. so the movie is actually entirely about the relationship between the escaped from prison guy and the paired woman character, about how even if you overcome overwhelming odds, the forces of the universe will come and rip the thing you love away from you for no purpose #monsterdon

Klaus Kinski, who plays Renfield here, is a rather controversial figure. A large number of people he worked with wanted to kill him, to the extent of brandishing weapons and attempting to burn his house down (no less than Werner Herzog). He was mentally ill in several ways. He had three children. His two daughters both say he molested or attempted to molest them as children. They didn't attend his funeral and he had a lawsuit against one of them.

5/5 in the abrupt ending category. They didn't even fuck off into the Salton Sea.

For a #Monsterdon there was an unusually high proportion of likeable people in this movie, especially the women. My favorite is Sandy the Ladybug Girl.

The monster costume/puppet was kind of neat looking. As a procedural, the plot kind of plodded, with the inevitable pause for a risible attempt to science out of the audience questions about what was going on

And that's a wreck! We can only assume that a bunch of radioactive mollusics have fucked off into other parts of the Salton sea and probably a bunch of other places as well. The neurodivergent polyglot with charts and a facilities requisition problem is never seen again. No lessons were learned and no characters were grown.
