For those who ain't seen Critters 1 & 2:

It's about a microblogging social network for crafts ("Critter") that gets invaded by a nasty little alien predator

In the 1st movie, the bloggers defeat the alien with the power of their "creets" & knitted protest banners

In the 2nd movie, the alien takes over Critter & renames it "C" (because he's a complete C-word)

In the 3rd tonight, the rebel alliance fight back from their base in the "Crediverse".

In about 30 minutes it's #monsterdon where we watch a movie together on fedi via hitting play at the same time.
Tonight we're watching Creature From The Black Lagoon (1954) which is a classic rubber suit feature with multiple rubber suits, and a guy swimming in a rubber suit which seems difficult honestly.

Bravo! Bravo! Everyone bravo! 👏👏👏

Fun to watch this with some people who've never seen it. It's a great musical and the movie gets to do so much unique stuff. Loved seeing posts from those of you viewing for the first time as the show unfolded its magic.

And the PUPPETS! And the SINGING!

Gah. I'm not a fanatic for musicals or anything, but this one is mandatory reading IMO, it's great in any format and especially in this format with this budget.

Thanks @ryan for setting up the #WrongFrogs double feature, it's always fun to revisit this one.

Have a nice night/week y'all!

I award Little Shop of Horrors (1960) 5 out of 5 spooky murdered face flowers, purely on the strength of how fucked up and weird it was.

Almost every sequence of dialog was baffling. Also, it was sort of a greek tragedy, just with a killer plant, and the flaw was a hunger for money and adoration? It managed to be both completely disturbed but also completely cheerful and not scary about how disturbed it was.

This Sunday at 9pm EST (that's 1am Monday UTC) it's #MONSTERDON the weekly monster movie watch party! Come watch a goofy monster movie with the rest of the fediverse!

This week we're watching LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (1960)! No, that's not the Rick Moranis version, this is the Roger Corman version. Yeah, I'm honestly curious, too. Apparently it was shot in 2 days flat on a budget of less than $30k, so it should be interesting ^^;

The flick's available free with ads over on Tubi: tubitv.com/movies/382527/the-l

Or over on YouTube: youtube.com/watch?v=mj_17y6i4O4

Or you can download in advance from Archive.org: archive.org/details/the-little

See you this Sunday!

I don't watch Top of The Pops and I don't watch the Monsterdon films, but I do watch the hashtags #TOTP and #Monsterdon because they are so entertaining. It is amusing to reverse-engineer some of the more out-of-context comments that fly by under these banners. My compliments to everyone who contributoots to these.

People with super-powers are never smart about Vegas.

People win big at Vegas every single day. Not a majority, obviously, not even close, but enough that you could become one of them and not attract any attention at all.

Sitting down at a blackjack table and winning every single hand for hours on end is not the way to go unnoticed

#Monsterdon fun tidbit from the DVD extras that came with my AppleTV version: for the two-headed wolf which is furry, earlier animations tended to have a problem where the fur would get messed with as the animator manipulated the model for each frame -- they mostly avoided this for this instance by being careful to touch the model as much as possible on the _back side_ that's not facing the camera, so it doesn't muss the fur on the visible side!

I made a comment about tonight's terrible #Monsterdon movie being "Clash of the Titans," and now Mr. Blue is offended because 9-year-old him thought it was GREAT.

Flash Gordon and Starcrash are like two racecars approaching a deadly turn at top speed. One car just barely manages to stay on the track and make the turn, and the other car is Starcrash.

I gotta give credit to Gloria de Haven, a legit actor with a long, storied career, for doing her best with this script. It often felt like she was the only one who knew what acting was. #Monsterdon

I’ve seen this one several times. But this was the best viewing. It makes a difference to have seen several decades of science fiction in between to re-recontextualize it, I guess. Thanks for making this choice, #Monsterdon folks!

This concludes my thread for , a movie that I liked but thought was more interesting than good, if that makes sense?

It makes me want to watch sfdebris' review of this movie again... I think he had a good argument that its plot was kind of a religious warning against technology, which is a notable take.

Remember to oil your robots I guess?

@Taweret I know several people who started out doing exactly that, then eventually removed the hashtag block specifically because even though they don't participate in themselves they love seeing so many people enjoy it.
