SKELETOR DIDN'T DIE AFTER ALL and he just threatened us with a sequel, unacceptable

But on the plus side he did apparently fuck off into a sparkly pink sea of some kind, so we'll always have that at least

NOW I HAVE TO WATCH THE WHOLE TRILOGY!

the Aztec Mummy returns to fight a Robot and a Vampire. then later on there's a kinda new Aztec mummy with El Santo. and El Santo fights the mummy, Frankenstein, Dracula, wolfwomen and vampire women.

and i now want to watch The Mummy because sweartagawd that second part of this movie is the whole premise of The Mummy but with the story of Xochtl and that's kinda bad ass.

well done

today was awesome

My wife closed the film by saying to the child β€œSee, the takeaway is that anyone can make a movie, and when you think you’re not good enough just remember this”

So in summary, what the director was saying - is we need to smash the patriarchy from within, like Dave takes down the binary stereotypes of Henrietta's formalism, and re-invent the proletariat as a gender fluid, anarcho-syndicalist structure, with Penny representing a new take on ground-up democracy.

Very thoughtful film.

I used Whisper to create a SRT formatted subtitle file for the movie "It Came From Beneath The Sea" - available on archive.org

Whisper mostly works very well - but muddy audio + underwater noises produced this accidental art.

I have a new policy. From now on, I will always vote Reptilian, until it is picked or the heat death of the universe occurs.

In other news, I am now taking bets on the heat death of the universe happening before Reptilian.

Yeah, the ridiculousness of the Abductee scenario is part of how easy these people can be funneled into high control groups. When no one believes you, it's really easy to glom onto people who say they do. #Monsterdon

The strife is a weird choice too because according to Strieber, even when their marriage was strained and Anne needed time away, she was still understanding the fact something was wrong with him. At this point he had a history of depressive episodes and she understood he wasn't "failing to be an adult."

Also he never fired a shotgun in a place with his wife and son. He did have a rifle in the cabin but never fired it.

I can see why Strieber hates this movie so much. They should have gone with an "inspired by" if they were gonna make such weird changes.

So the plot of the movie was basically some aristocratic woman got depressed, went on a trip, and brought back a witch and a dracula back with her so that she could steal his vampirism and kill him to live forever with the boy she had been in love with since childhood, and the boy responded by burning her in her coffin before she had even done anything to anyone #monsterdon

There's a second Mario movie coming out soon. Got me thinkin' about the distinction between good and bad movies.

Thinkin' about how by most objective standards, Mario's a better movie than, say, Starcrash. Mario's plot makes sense, its got coherent characters, they spent a mint on animation and it shows, etc. While Starcrash is goofy, incoherent, and cheap.

And I've seen Starcrash dozens of times, and Mario *once.*

Holy shit, this skeleton animation is _so fluid_. Especially (deliberately?) in comparison with the Talos fight from earlier in the film, this feels so much more fluid. There is motion, mass, momentum, all the character eyelines are in the right place even in the middle of the melee. This is world class work. What a scene.

I've had a few new folks follow me and it's time to warn you that in ~15 minutes I'll be participating in a thing called #Monsterdon, which is where a bunch of us get together and co-watch an old movie and make fun of it. It's a real good time. Feel free to join!

So if you suddenly see me posting once every 5 minutes, be aware that this goes on for about 90 minutes. You can either mute the hashtag if you don't want to see any Monsterdon posts, or mute my account for a few hours (if you click on "options", you can "mute for 6 hours" - I assure you I will say nothing remotely useful for at least that length of time).

Tonight we're watching Jason and the Argonauts, free on Tubi here:

Just once I'd like a Hercules flick that doesn't try to turn Herc into some kind of paladin for Truth, Justice, and The Athenian Way. Show me the boozy Hercules who got assigned the Labors as penance after getting sloppy drunk and killing his own wife and kid. #Monsterdon

#monsterdon Well, I enjoyed that. It was good fun.

I am a little disappointed though. I've heard many times that this film was "Completely different" than Doctor Who. ... but really, this was a remake of the second episode of the TV show.

So, not completely different at all, almost shot-for-shot identical.

so a godlike grandpa scientist blunder into a random time and space, militarize its inhabitants and precipitate a stable truce into open warfare, there are no characters, not even the doctor is a character, and the most peril actually experienced is how one of the guys got stuck in like a one meter wide ravine #monsterdon

@Taweret Shock Waves: β€œaquatic Nazi zombies!”

β€œThe film is about a group of tourists who encounter aquatic Nazi zombies when they become shipwrecked. It stars Peter Cushing as a former SS commander, Brooke Adams as a tourist, and John Carradine as the captain of the tourists' boat.”

I had only middling expectations for β€œPlanet Earth” but it really underwhelmed them. That was terrible to begin with and has aged poorly since.

Worse yet, I have nobody to blame but myself, since I voted for this terrible thing.

Now I need to watch β€œDestroy All Monsters” to cleanse the palate.

Folks it is now ONE HOUR until #MONSTERDON the weekly monster movie watch party. If you want to avoid a bunch of goofy toots about a cheesy monster movie, best set up a hashtag filter.

If you'd like to join in, this week we're watching THE QUATERMASS XPERIMENT (1955), which is full of British astronauts. Gonna be either hilarious or awesome, either is fine by me ^^

The flick is free with ads over on Tubi right here: tubitv.com/movies/100051543/th

Or you can download from archive.org over here: archive.org/details/the-quater

Just hit play at the top of the hour and toot along. See you there!

He-man should be a bunch of hippie goblins running around saying things like ARE YOU THE TONE-MAKER while a hammy skeleton dances around with a slice of beefcake in a homoerotic fight scene where it's unclear how much of the subtext is intentional. And I stand by that. #Monsterdon

I finally got around to watching Devil Girl from Mars. It was a nice balance of goofiness and surprisingly high quality. At the climax I was waiting for the spaceship to explode, fully expecting the special effects to be horrible, but it was actually very clever and beautiful. I feel certain the effect was made underwater, with a cloud tank. Overall, the movie felt like a radio drama. #Monsterdon

Alright, folks, that's all fifty two movies we watched on #Monsterdon this year! Tell me which movie you thought was The Best, The Worst, and The Most Fun To Monsterdon, and I'll take the top three from each category and put up a poll.

And at long last we will have a definitive, democratically-ordained choice as to Which Movie Sucks More! Let me have it :D

When this post is about one hour old, it will be time for #MONSTERDON!

This is an event where a bunch of folks get together and watch movies with monsters, aliens, robots, zombies, frankensteins and their monsters, terrible human beings, real estate transactions (with surprising frequency) and lessons learned along the way.

The movies are always streaming for free.

SO you can:

1) Do nothing and get a barrage of people snarking about a bad move you aren't watching (which is its own kind of reward, really)
2) Join in! Check the #MonsterdonAlert hashtag to see what we are watching! It's free and no one can stop you!
3) Mute the hashtag, which makes John Mastodon cry, but you didn't care about his feeling anyway. In the Mastodon web UI, for example, this can be done by clicking on the hashtag anywhere it appears, like right here -> #monsterdon <- picking Mute, and making a new filter for it.

Surprisingly good creature effects this week, even if everything else was pretty standard late-70s schlock. Sadly Ramon did not live to fuck off into the swamps.

Goodnight #monsterdon, thanks to @Taweret for hosting, I'm gonna make some dinner and then... maybe watch some more Millennium?

Oh no. My cat has scratched the frame of my #Monsterdon print.

The scratch is pointing at the weird ice robot from Logan's Run. If that means anything. Maybe it's a sign!
