Man, the small details really tell a story in this one. That Morgan drives up to the lab and doesn't bother locking his car door, or even rolling up the window...

I give 5 out of 5 cyborg hearts. It precisely matched my expectations by leaving me deeply confused. I'd rate the characters but they confused me also.

Dismayed that the mad scientist didn't also have a redemption arc, or maybe he did but I missed it? Who can say?

Anyway, thanks to @Taweret@octodon.social for hosting!

Anyway, that finishes the Gargoyle movie. It was really kind of a bummer, what with all the genocide. I award it 3 giant fuzzy eggs out of 5, mostly because it was strange.

characters in decreasing order of likeability:
makeshift bikini girl
motel milf
designated egg petters
them 50 bloodhounds
the yazirian
doctor sniffles
wizened hat guy
captain demonology
wrongly accused motorcycle dudes
all other characters

I give tonight's a 4/5. The characters were mostly just there, but they discovered some weird underground shit, and that's neat! I love me a good subterranean ocean and some rando dinosaurs.

Party members in descending order of usefulness:
* Mr Whittle Pipe (does almost everything)
* Cave Aragorn (helpfully explodes)
* Bellhop Twink and Rock Lady (splash and look at things)
* Professor Muttonchops (almost gets everyone killed several times)

props to @Taweret@octodon.social for hosting!

This movie is such a good antidote to Project Moonbase from last week. The same cold war era paranoia, but turned to starry-eyed idealism instead of cloak and dagger spy plots.

Plus the rubber monster suits in this one were so much better.

Feels like being part of some kind of radical future downloading a torrent of Godzilla from the Internet Archive and it all being legit.
I'm a dedicated 'preserver of culture' but it's nice not to have to feel like a pirate for using the Internet as it was promised

well, that was more fun than the standalone Mothra movie i remember seeing.

added bonues: i learned how to stream 4k from the Archive with the added subtitles from OpenSubtittles.

total gamechanger!

thanks @Taweret@octodon.social and to the shenaniganders for these wonderful shenanigans.

am so glad to be back enjoying these shenanigans with you all 😘

Did Godzilla... just get its tail stuck in a tower, then panic a bit, and when the tower fell over on Godzilla it freaked out a little bit?

...is Godzilla a cat?

so... am making sure i get set up for and am seeing streaming services i've never heard of. when you look at the fine print, they're all some mix of Viacom, Universal, WB/Paramount, FOX, Disney, SONY with Google or Amazon as assists.

so they're segregating movies into "demo" targets; making it look like there's competition; but money is going to the same handful of behemoths.

if billionaires have no right to exist, neither do oligopolies.

break them up.

ALL OF THEM.

my partner looked up and saw Walken standing in front of a wall and he said, "is this the part where Walken apologizes for the movie?"

also i've wandered off to make pasta at this point

Okay #Monsterdon, I don't think we have any UFO-focused movies in our bingo archive yet, so I'm starting from scratch this week.

What are you hoping to see on Sunday? Hit me with your best UFO/Alien tropes of the 1980s. :blobcatcoffee:

Honestly they didn't ignore that he could hear them talking...

really my major issues with this film are just Lon Cheney Jr.'s acting and a little bit of the premise

it doesn't have to be Dracula, the book

I will likely miss #Monsterdon, so I will throw this out now. The very first thing that strikes me in Son of Dracula is the gorgeous "A UNIVERSAL PICTURE" intro. Considering that the film itself stars Lon Cheney Jr., I suspect that the intro logo is the peak, and it's all down hill from there. I wondered if it had been animated, but that would have required a maddening amount of calculation. I did a search and found this. Wow. Six months in the making. A labor of love. movies.stackexchange.com/quest

Big thanks to @Taweret for our special has-nothing-to-do-with-Easter Monsterdon Easter movie. Classic 1950s radioactive mutant animal(s) film.

We had smoking. We had coffee. We had a lot of exposition, little stock footage, and more than one monster. Monster(s) generated large amounts of spunk. Death count of nine. Minimal subplots. Reasonably dramatic final battle.

Aside from the titular monster, most memorable actor was the museum curator.
