They are starting the movie with a recitation of the Edgar Allen Poe poem. Not sure where this is going.

I tried making @JoeWynne’s #Monsterdon drink of the week, but I think I failed.

I don't have any highball glasses, for one, but when I poured it over ice in a regular glass and then attempted to float the Chambord on top, it was a disaster. It went straight to the bottom. I handed it to my wife, and her first response was, β€œTastes like mouthwash.”

I tried again, this time without pouring over ice, but same result. I can't float the Chambord (it spills all down the shot glass).

Yeah, I was going to dump on the music, but I started wondering if there was enough to dump on... there seemed to be an awful lot of musical passage quoting (or "borrowing").

And a couple of passages where I wondered if they didn't have the money, so they just got someone to noodle on a Hammond B3 organ.

Well, ok, even you give a pass on the "just for laughs" misogyny and racism (I only counted three egregious ones, which is pretty good for a film made in the 60s), it somehow wasn't *quite* bonkers enough to push it into being really, really good. Like, I can see where they were going with it, but they just did not get there. I'm glad I watched it, but I wouldn't watch it again XD

Thanks for hosting, @Taweret !

Spielberg probably watched The Raven and realized, "that's it! That's the ending to Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade!" #monsterdon

I don’t think James H. Nicholson and Jack Nicholson are related. Nicholson is a pretty common name.

I know we love a good bad movie, but I do feel that had the makers taken the plot seriously, we would have had a good movie with some good plot twists.

Well, if they had the budget for it, of course.

Love the final shot of this film. Nice job, Vincent.

And that was a load of fun, even if it was not the best of films. Really enjoyed all of you hangin' out with me tonight.

Special thanks to everyone who made this extra great, not the least of which is @Taweret for running the event weekly!

See you next week, I hope!

The protagonists escape, Scarabus and Lenore argue in the wreckage of their castle mostly just to show that they survived and are unhappy with each other now.

whoa, at the last minute the castle transformed into the barn that burns to the ground in every Roger Corman movie with a fire!

It would have been nice if anything had set up Erasmus as a hidden magical badass instead of a bumbler who could only rise to the challenge when his daughter was threatened. It's like that scene with him zapping the mind-controlled groundskeeper (?) was written as the setup for a different climax.
