After taking drugs, everyone passes out.

The android aliens decided that they were dead and so leave them alone, but took Irene because the big bad thinks she might be the psychic he was battling mentally (it was the professor though). But the humans weren't dead, the drugs just fooled the aliens, and the aliens didn't bother taking their corpses for examination.
