They should mix in some crows cawing over the NYC skyline shots

I think the subsequent spate of superhero movies set in manhattan really numbed me to "here's a notable landmark being destroyed".

HO HUM.

#monsterdon They keep doing the same thing.

Does any movie do that well? Where they do an action movie trope and then do the same one two minutes later?

Soldiers asking for permission to fire after being told to fire at Will The Lizard is just a bit weird. I guess it heightens the tension of this completely boring action scene?

Oh yeah bc I'm tooting from 1m in the future pay attention to the TV's- they all have related content playing, we just saw the one #monsterdon favorite that had the giant Octopus (not Tentacoli, the other one)

edit: not Octaman either, the one bigger than a Winnebego

It was a little odd at this time in Holleywood to not have another film just like this in production at the same time(Dante's Pek/Volcano, Deep Impact/Armageddon).

The music in this scene definitely implies that we're supposed to be rooting for our hero Godzilla to destroy all of Manhattan and every one of these military personnel. This is weird. Usually Godzilla is supposed to symbolize the inescapable weight of aspects of humanity's folly, embodied in the form of a foe we cannot hope to overcome. But in this one he's apparently our scaly hero?

For a movie that aligns with the perspective it's a damn shame that *cups hands* IT SUUUUUUCKS

Director Emmerich admitted that he did not like any of the original Godzilla movies. That was part of the reason he went in a totally different design direction.

Future producers of MCU and other franchises would never again make this mistake with a director.
