So three of the spacemen take the spacecar to an extremely modernist glass house, where they are greeted by a giant fish statue, and meet the Doctor, who has a goatee, perhaps a Goatee of Evil!?

Anyway, the Doctor is congenial and gives them food, which the robot made for them with its built in food extruder. They then get a demo of this smart house's nice features, like a disintigrator beam, and learn that Robby is programmed to not kill people via a Very Unsafe Gun Demo.

Launching my #monsterdon thread for #ForbiddenPlanet! A movie that is reputed to be Very Good and a Classic and also the Antecedent to a lot of other scifi movies that came later. I think I watched it before, not sure if it left much of an impression on me, so excited to rewatch it and see if it does?

Anyway, monsterdon is the thing where every week we watch a monster movie every week and provide snarky commentary. Feel free to mute the hash tag if that's not your jam.

We are introduced to the inside of the flying saucer, which is crewed entirely by white dudes in padded gray costumes. The flying saucer is a cool set, the centerpiece of which is a crystal globe. Their mission is to go to Altair for some reason, and when they arrive they have to step in these force field chambers to shield themselves from the deceleration.

As they arrive we get a cool effect scene where they show the planet eclipsing the sun.

This movie starts with a flying saucer zooming around, and a voiceover explains the history of the world. We land on the moon in the last decade of the 21st century and then later invent a hyperdrive and travel faster than light through deep space. So far we're ahead of schedule on the moon thing, but alas, no hyperdrives.

We then are introduced to our first character, who is a spaceship. She's a flying saucer doing a deep space things, but like... a human flying saucer.
