Then he hears something rattling near the dryer, and a fuzzball with a mouth jumps out and starts eating his neck until he stabs it with a screwdriver.

The fuzzball retreats, but it is only a tactical retreat and the fuzzball returns (with a reinforcement fuzzball) to finish eating his neck.
