I am legit surprised we're getting so many full-bodied views of the monster this early in the movie. From the guy-in-the-suit genre of monster, he has sort of a scaly belly and almost a fish shaped head but with eyebrows, and flipper claws.

Anyway, the monster decides to stalk the girl a bit and then hide in the seaweed, then tentatively pokes her feet because he's shy, but the girl doesn't notice because she is busy communing with the river spirits.

Fishman stories were surprisingly common back in the old days of weird tales. Like The Harbor Master by Robert W. Chambers. Alot of them also had a gillman lusting after human women. Or atleast stalking them.

Julie Adams (playing Kay Lawrence) said in interviews that despite her many roles and better acting, this role was always the fan favorite.

When she swims in the lagoon and the camera shows her legs underwater, it might remind you of a famous 1975 movie. We seem to be seeing a lot of influences for that movie recently.
