Ah yes, that's why he's so familiar. Richard Carlson was the star of The Magnetic Monster (1953), which is a very odd movie.

I love how underwater monster movies have large sections with no talking whatsoever.

It's obviously just a consequence of the kind of movie it is but still interesting. I also like how large parts of the end of Dark City is just 2 fellas leaning towards each other and concentrating really hard...
