Clash of the Titans (1981)

"Perseus (Harry Hamlin), son of the Greek god Zeus (Laurence Olivier), grows up on a deserted island. His destiny is to marry Princess Andromeda (Judi Bowker), who will someday rule the city of Joppa. But as long as the satyr Calibos (Neil McCarthy) -- who uses a giant vulture to kidnap Andromeda's soul every night -- is alive, no one can marry her. here’s the thing, neither of these guys is good. at least thr techbro owns his violence. the bitchy scientist thinks he is above the fray; but the only reason he does his sciencing is to be a settler colonialist.

so fuck the science guy a million miles from Sunday.

science for settler colonialism is violence.

wanted to play the OG black & white version, but forgot to download it, so off to color i go.

these opening credits are 🔥🔥🔥 and this moon shot is actually THE MOOD! is this gonna be an actully good movie?

i just reckoned it’s a Ray Harryhausen production, so no wonder the visuals have kicked ass so far.

I told a coworker about and she said "It sounds too intellectual for me". So, obviously I did a bad job with it.

Terencio

I had someone smile at me like that once. The next several years were pretty interesting.

who says your movie hase to have a "resolution" or "satisfying conclusion"

those things are for cowards

you can just stop your movie at an arbitrary point and roll the credits. no one can stop you

To repeat @Taweret@octodon.social because the most important part of this evenings entertainment was “You all voted for this.” -- yes. I think we've established that we likely do not truly grasp what voting means. We didn't get it at the start of November, and we still don’t get it, today. We need adults. More adultier adults. :)

The animated Harryhausen model is still wandering around I bet. Lonely. Confused. Wondering if its SAG card is still good, or if there is anything left of the craft services table after the PIranha got to it!

_Wow_. The filmmakers managed to find a way to work in a boat jump _and_ a fuel explosion, on a pretext thinner than wet crepe paper. We are watching masters at work here tonight.

This morning I watched a matinee of Nosferatu (2024) with my sister and brother Josh, and this evening I watched Battle Beyond the Stars (1980) with a bunch of weirdos. I think I may be suffering from cinematic whiplash.

Aha! The tonight is "The Robot vs the Aztec Mummy" (1958).

I didn't realize there was a whole series of Aztec Mummy flicks. Given how gloriously bad the previous one was, it seems worth a look. I recall the mummy didn't show up until the last fifth of the movie.

And it turned into a vampire briefly, for no apparent reason, so we have that to look forward to.

Ways to make better

* make the solar monsters smarter and more interesting
* make the planet denizens smarter and more interesting
* put more characterization into the characters before trying to set up love triangles. or just don't set up love triangles
* add better reasons for the main character to want to get home and better reasons for the planet people to oppose this.
* add space lesbians. in fact all the characters are lesbians now.

I learned that I love Lola Albright and her science-appropriate couture.

Honestly, and I think I say this on behalf of everyone, it's been one helluva week and this has been, hands-down the best release.

Very grateful and seriously happy.

Thanks @Taweret@octodon.social for the flik and @cheribaker for the bingo and everyone for the community.

Got my t-shirt this week! I love the design (prefer this monochrome line drawing version). Suitable attire for watching on Sunday evening.

what the hell frank? you were going to live forever with your hot goth babe wife being benign landlords that only needed to occasionally drain a sustainable amount of blood from your tenants while they were sleeping but otherwise carry on as respected members of the community providing affordable, clean, safe housing to the downtrodden bloodbags #monsterdon

Filming seemed to have been less boring than the movie.

Trivia: "While filming, Louise Allbritton and co-star Robert Paige were constantly playing jokes on their cast mates. One day, Pat Moriarity and Paige were filming a scene where they flip open her character's coffin. They were astonished upon opening the lid to find Allbritton inside, completely naked."

I think someone smarter than me could write a paper about the way Son of Dracula sort of Americanizes the vampire. Changing it from a psychosexual thing to a race science thing. "A young and virile country" and all that. #Monsterdon
