So Shari Belafonte is Harry Belafonte's daughter. I have a weird story about Harry Belafonte.

My dad was a gambler. He was one of those guys who got comped rooms and meals and stuff. He had a gambling problem. Anyways, the casinos were always sending him stuff. One time (in the late 1980s) a casino shipped him a brand new cassette recorder with a cassette in it. When you pressed play, it said

"Hi Ray (my dad's name), this is Harry Belafonte. I'm performing on date such and such at casino such and such and I want you to come see my show..."

13-year-old me was blown away. Dad was so important that a famous person was personally inviting him with such an expensive invitation. It was only when I was an adult that I understood why he went bankrupt and the casinos loved him.

But I still muse over someone as famous as Harry Belafonte sitting in some studio recording little tapes like that for some high rollers...
