In defense o fthe silver handle bit: someone in nerd land did a whole thing a couple of years ago where they made silver bullets and used ballistic jelly and it turns out they are really hard to both make well and to fire accuratly. And I highly doubt the people in this movie would be casting their own bullets, and killing the werewolf is clearly of paramount importance.
