It is interesting to compare this to the Will Smith "I Am Legend" which had much less interesting things to say #Monsterdon

#Monsterdon Grading #LastManOnEarth is… that one student who Understood the Assignment.

Vincent Price: A++++++ and not just because of my bias. (That hysterical laughter… eep.)
Science: A, testing hypothesis like garlic and mirrors
Biology: B-, knew the difference between bacteria and viruses at least.
Screenwriting: A+ adaptation, genuinely creepy and dark.
Acting: C+, some chewing of scenery and fellow actors
Irony: BOY howdy.
Plague parallels: damn eerie.

Think this one taught *me*.

OK BUT: the big reveal, from Ruth to Morgan, was that he was killing people who could be helped, and could live a normal life like she did with daily injections

But then the people from her society rolled up and just started killing all the zombie people, who looked the same as the ones Morgan killed

So why aren't they also murderers?

I've liked Matheson's short stories, but I don't know how well he did as a novelist.

Closest I can come is in Damon Knight's book In Search of Wonder. He discusses it in the chapter "Half-Bad Writers".

"...it's a theme perfectly adapted to Matheson's undisciplined, oh-my-God style, and he has developed it, in many places, with great ingenuity and skill. The book is full of good ideas, every other one of which is immediately dropped and kicked out of sight."

Of course, under this new world order, post Vincent Price biting it, there's some multinational zombie corporation making a fortune off the daily anti-zombie juice injections.

So the final scene invokes Christian martyrdom AND has a Tod Browning reference? A lot going on there, very good, seal of approval. #Monsterdon

I've never read the book, but both the Vincent Price version the Charlton Heston version end on out-of-nowhere religious imagery.

Can anyone who's actually read "I Am Legend" let us know if the book is like that?

"We're all safe now, don't cry. It's not like he created another one of him in his last hour on earth, right? When you kill the main vampire you NEVER have to worry about the spawn, right?" #Monsterdon

I'm impressed with how he kept the city electric grid running with all the staking he's been doing.

Ok, Last Man On Earth hits completely different after living through Covid. I used to laugh at how silly so much of this movie was. Not so much now, but still enjoyable.

So, the cured vampires can be killed just with an ordinary pistol?

That sucks. I think I'd rather be a immortal zombie-vampire if I was going on a dangerous mission like trying to kill Vincent Price. #monsterdon

breaking into the armory and running from a horde of zombies in a police station. based on how my own last Project Zomboid run went, this may not end well for Mr Price. #monsterdon
