It seems like it's really common for those old tiny-budget monster movies to have some kind of stage act they can use as padding.

Also, I'm totally with @trixter on this one, they completely dropped the ball with the monster's motivation. Are they mindless? Did they WANT something? Why'd they show up at the club like they were looking for something? Was it just near the river? How come they seemed to be following our female lead? Was her melted boyfriend trying to protect her?
