Terror of Mechagodzilla

It's like shaking hands with danger. Very big, scaly danger.

We return to the conference room where the puny humans are designing a Newer, Better Submarine that is Yellow because they like the Beetles. They mention that they found one of the mad scientist's notebooks.

Mad Scientist daughter visits them, and a deep voiced Biologist visits her and tells her how brilliant her dad's work is. Because he has a deep voice I assume he is a main character, and will call him the Cunning Linguist.

next scene the mad scientist, the daughter and the bearded alien open a secret passage in a cave, revealing a very 2001: A Space Odyssey corridor that leads to an alien control room manned by the humanoid aliens. Outside, they have recovered MechaGodzilla and seem to be repairing him (it?) in some kind of hanger.

The Mad Scientist realizes that these are the aliens, and is surprised and Captain Sunglasses introduces themselves.

this dialogue doesn't need to be quite so breathless, doll

The bearded guy (also an alien) explains that there's a smart doctor guy who hates earthlings and is a mad scientist and so might help them destroy the world. The mad scientist guy wanted to farm the oceans but the other scientists laughed at him because he found a dinosaur (dubbed Titanousaurs) that he could control.

Actually, they didn't laugh at him; they thought it was too much power for man to control dinosaurs that were not chickens.

the humans drive their submarine around to where they thing MechaGodzilla's body is, but they can't find it there. Then a suspiciously scaly tail does a swishy swish and knocks their toy submarine into a whirlpool as everyone does a Enterprise-Hit-By-Phaser-Fire jumping around all dramatically sequence.

It is revealed that the assailant is a weird dragon thing, that then smashes the sub and explodes it. RIP in peace toy boy, RIP in peace.

I think this concludes the recap episode summary of the anime as the credit sequence starts. We see a different Godzilla being shot by real Godzilla's atomic heat breath. But then I am surprised by even more recap, as this is indeed, the Second Time Godzilla has faced the dreaded MechaGodzilla.

In a montage of the past battle we see the best special effects, which are part 60s Doctor Who and part Child-Has--A-Lot-Of-Toys-And-An-Expensive-Camera.

The guy in the Gozilla suit doing the backstory sequence is really killing it. Both figuratively and literally.

Some excellent moves.

The moral of the story is putting a huge backstory infodump at the beginning of your story is tremendously confusing and pointless, I don't know why I have to tell a professional filmmaker this #monsterdon

this time Godzilla says goodbye to the humans before fucking off into the sea #monsterdon

Also that red text wasn't translated but I assume it said "The End."

i think if i was the humans i would want to establish more regular lines of communication with godzilla, because this pattern of every time he or any other monster shows up not knowing whose side they are going to be on seems unsustainable #monsterdon

Two of my favorite things about tonight's #Monsterdon was that I had absolutely no idea where anything was happening at any point in time and that it was really unclear what the stakes were other than "obvious bad thing is obviously bad"

I've not really been paying much attention this movie and I'm also 45 minutes or so behind but apparently the girl is a cyborg and also the alien leader feels it necessary to whip people right before sentencing them to death? What a jerk.

that's a weird one but I don't really know why it did so badly at the box office, unless I guess people were just bored of it

that was pretty good, i liked some of the sets, it needed more proper fighting but what it had was solid, particularly at the end

maybe a shortened second reel, I think that would've helped

Totally don't understand what the purpose of ripping off the alien's face to reveal that underneath he looks - basically the same but a bit slimy? - was

Did they decide not to fight and just fuck shit up together? I can get behind that

Their health and safety folks are gonna have to have a word about all the welding they're doing with no eye protection, no hand protection, and like 2 feet away from some dudes that are just having a conversation. #monsterdon

Well anyway, Titanosaurus appears from the sea and the humans are like "oh fuck we don't have a sound cannon; better send some fighter planes and cross our fingers guys!"

naturally, a panicked evacuation scene ensues as all the civilians run away. In the background, Titanosaur starts smashing buildings as airplanes and tanks shoot at him.

"We'll have Godzilla fight multiple monsters one after the other! This is a tactic that has never been tried before, and will definitely work! We're geniuses!" #Monsterdon

"They've got special space guns. Anyway, can we go on full alert?"

"Mmm, I dunno, full alert sounds like a lot of work. Could we do half alert? Maybe a brief attentive phase?"
