Oof, I just looked up the financials on this one. $23 million to produce, did $1.5 million at the box office. Still, that explains the effects. I bet if they went in $23.1 million they could have hired a writer or two.

After imaginary bug torture, the village chief says that he found the glowing orb, which the Evil General calls the Orb of Longinus, implying he knows what it is. His son said he never saw the sphere (which is true) but the Evil General decides to torture him anyway by using his torture machine to give him the illusion of his arm melting.

I'm kind of digging these villain vehicle designs. The suspension clearance of the wheels doesn't make a lot of sense - they should have a lot more vertical clearance than that, and they would definitely benefit from some kind of coverage to prevent easy puncturing - but otherwise they make a certain amount of internal sense. Good job, props team.

so they're totally out of water in the desert wastes now, right?

ah whatever I guess it's not really worth a mention in this world whose most central rule is the totalitarian control of water

The next night the cool theme park village is attacked by the Evil General and his dystopian guns, who attack it with laser blasters, torches, fisticuffs and bumper-car mounted rakes. The evil team captain is his second in command and shoots the owl with a laser so that the audience hates him more.

They wanted a bunch of ~ mystic Native American ~ tropes but didn't want to hire any Native actors, so they made up a name and stuffed a bunch of white people in the group

Is that any better?

The Chikani chief takes the Bird Dude to meet with his king, who holds court in an abandoned horror theme amusement park full of fake skulls on the wall, which is a choice. He brings him the orb that ran away.

For some reason the King knows about the orb and claims it came from space, which is further evidence for my Vorlon hypothesis.

Oh wait I think Bird guy is the "Chikani" guy because he wandered off into the desert on his own and now he's at a village. In the village the chief is making with the Second Girl character then meets Bird Dude and because an owl was there he pronounces him "Chikani"

This is kinda like Wolf's Rain for kids that like to skate

The reason why you were taught the phrase "willing suspension of disbelief" is because your teachers knew someday you would watch this scene

(Does anyone remember how well 80s-era rollerskate bearings held up to grit and dust? Like what the kids are skating through right now? No reason, just curious.)

((Seriously though, modern-era sealed cartridge 608 bearings are _magical_ compared to what we had easy access to even ten years ago. Look 'em up sometime, they are a modern miracle.))

Anyway, at night the One Girl wakes up the Captain via shirtless belly rubs and we learn Rainbow Hat has escaped, probably chasing the orb. The one girl tries to get everyone to leave, so we decide to vote on it. One character insists on a secret ballot so we vote by writing on paper and putting it in a helmet and in the end everyone has decided to go.

After more glowing orb magic the orb leaves I guess, and the next day in class, someone escaped the orphanage, so an alarm is sounded and goons start searching all the orphan barracks. I like the goon search scene because it shows us all the cool sets in this movie, which are neat. I like the barracks and the giant monitors in the classroom.

After our brainwashing roller blading session, where we rollerblade in circles listening to propaganda talking points, the good and bad team captains have a secret fight. Afterward, the good team captain goes to meet the orb and he can talk to it too and tells it he doesn't want to be part of the future evil rollerblade army and then the orb replies with electronica music.

Charles Durning was also the voice of Peter Griffin's step-father Francis on Family Guy. He passed away in 2012. (The actor not the character.)

It's the next day and we're doing a dystopia. All the orphans, most of whom look old enough to be college students, are summoned for some kind of army muster by a loudspeaker. We see both boys and girls but we only saw boys playing the roller derby game. After the loudspeaker yells at them, they go run an obstacle course.

Rainbow Hat is missing because he was hiding his Orb friend in a giant chest.
