lol
"Everybody get naked....for the sake of the balloon....obviously "
I like how this movie is making us feel every day on that balloon. Every day.
I'm sorry, the Pacific and not the Atlantic?
#monsterdon Hhahahahaha North vs. South. I just came from the deep south, so this is hilariously accurate.
#monsterdon
Cannons proving ineffective to thwart prison balloon escape.
Is the balloon also bulletproof?
Clever stairs ploy #monsterdon
I keep on thinking about how a decent fraction of ballons in this era were tethered because they were glorified observation towers. (...that inspired von Zeppelin)
ooo, it's a captain Nemo adventure!
there actually was a civil war era submarine. no pipe organ or velvet upholstery though.

@CactuarJoe At least one of the soldiers commented on *why* they were fighting in the ACW in response
I remember being much more enthused about this film when I was a pre-teen. Honestly, the book it's based on isn't much better, and it's been the basis of many other films.
And - holy shit - apparently there's a 2005 film loosely based on the novel with *Patrick Stewart* as Captain Nemo.
@forestine he died for his art, a true romantic #monsterdon
i'm convinced the reason the submarine could never go underwater again was because it would knock the pipe organ out of tune #Monsterdon
@Simplicator and look what happened! Fuck you Jared! #monsterdon
@RamenCatholic @r343l soothing lava #monsterdon
@heathen_cat I'm going to go along with him on this.....
#monsterdon
Great VFX and a plodding plot that probably could have had 20-30 minutes cut. Right down the middle for #Monsterdon, it was a lot more fun to watch that with a group.
Have a nice night and see you all next week!
Criminy, the #monsterdon devotion to no denouement at all remains strong. Lava flowing, one sentence of voiceover, the end.
@T3CHT like Vincent Price, he has his priorities! #monsterdon
He died as he lived: absolutely horny for natural phenomena and the violence of nature
and so they fucked off into the sea
maybe they'll find a plot out there somewhere
but probably not
the creatures and effects were cool tho
ty for joining, everyone!!
How did they not name this movie Losing Nemo? #Monsterdon
I don't think you tried hard enough to save Nemo frankly......
Nemo buddy get out!
As a child I remember being upset at Nemo getting knocked around and dropping his plans, everyone else could have gone to hell
Reminds me of 'Raise the Titanic' which also had long, interminable underwater scenes
"Excellent! At this rate of flow, we should be able to float the ship in four, maybe four and a half months."
How did they not name this movie Finding Nemo? #Monsterdon
This is a list of sci-fi movies by decade. I went through this a while back and found a lot of them online for free.
It's a pretty good list to have if you want to watch really great B movies.

Godzilla too!?!??
"This submarine can never go to sea again."
"Why? It got a hole in it?"
"No, it's just..... it's not time yet."
"Time for what?"
"Time to get that sunken ship out of the water!"
"But what about your submarine."
"NO! NO! IT CAN NEVER GO TO SEA AGAIN!"
Seriously, if that submarine goes to sea at any point in this movie, I support everyone murdering Captain Nemo.
IT'S A SUBMARINE AND YOU HAVE EXPLAINED NOTHING ABOUT WHY THAT FANCY ASS PLOT DEVICE CAN'T AT LEAST FLOAT.
maybe if you had spent any time looking at or learning about the local giant animals you might have learned how they handle the apparently frequent volcanic eruptions #monsterdon
Concept=:
Stick this thing into this other thing and wait a second, that's how the CIA secretly raised a Russian submarine for real
This movie's tech is prophetic
@Louisa he's probably also the time traveler alien from journey to the center of the earth
It's just not a monsterdon film without some organ or harpsichord music!
"i've known about you for months now" HOW MUCH TIME HAS PASSED???!
HOW MANY ERAS ARE IN THIS #monsterdon #mysteriousisland1961
@ramsey if this is lemuria then WHERE are the giant lemurs?
@moira Clearly, this is Lemuria. #Monsterdon
(impressive) stock footage of a volcano again, I wonder which one it was
"Nemo had also invented some kind of fabulous counting machine that could rewrite reality, but we don't have time for that storyline"
Waaaiittt, we're getting some Atlantis in this movie as well?
I am absolutely cackling at Nemo's plan that somehow MAKING FOOD BIGGER would solve hunger. 😂
Here, have a glassful of my vintage pee
"Yes, all the giant animals you devoured, were mine.....so thanks for that. Did you have to eat them ALL?"
I wish todays supervillains were like Nemo instead of greedy childish idiots
Stock footage of a volcano
He's like a human hermit crab.
Nemo has a neoprene wetsuit because of course he does.
I was hoping for Peter Graves
It's Neptune!
They're there for the booty
"Maybe the tide came out"
I feel like if you were on an island for very long, you'd have a good feel for tide times?
Jaunty little pirate hats
Boiinnng into the water!
I sure hope Nemo left the door to the Nautilus open like a proper supervillan would
lol, just accidentally stumbles into Nemo's secret lair.....the luck of these two...
imagine if this movie had characters with motivations and we knew what those were and it like, drove the action forward
Oh no an impenetrable prison of.. wax
They forgot to wear the beekeeper outfits that (probably) washed up onto the shore. #monsterdon
"Somehow the giant bee is sealing us in this honeycomb!"
It's like they've never seen bees before....
Giant honeycomb mean more giant animals to kill and eat
Just eat the cliff goop, what could go wrong
He was just a little chicken with a big body
Lmao I love the giant cooked chicken, what an incredible prop!!!
It would 100% still be raw inside if the outside was only golden brown, but y'know
They're going to eat well tonight! Chicken Nuggets are back on the menu!
they've built fences and chicken coops and tables and a working elevator but not a boat
One of these two seems turned on by the chicken. #monsterdon
Fortunately the ladies brought several changes of clothing and cosmetics.
#monsterdon
Interesting that these upper class English women in the mid-19th century know all about how to milk goats and cook and add "feminine touches" to the cave house, isn't it
Shipping Spillet and the Aunt and Twink and the Niece
Cave homesteading
If this movie was made today, they'd use one of those giant plastic skeletons you can buy at walmart.
Those caves look entirely too much like an RJ-45 jack next to an RJ-11.
I dunno, if I saw a load of vines conveniently hanging out of some caves I'd be more wary....
Nothing is happening but the music is lovely #Monsterdon
Wait
The rich English women were going to Marseille
And the soldiers came from the southeastern coast of the US, or at furthest the Gulf of Mexico
But the captain is sure they're all stranded in the Pacific??
"how soon may we leave"
well, the movie's not over for like an hour...
#monsterdon
Wait. A bunch of passed out women were washed up on shore....in dresses with low necklines.
Just lounging on the beach.
#Monsterdon
I miss the crab monster already.
Watery tarts washing up on shore is no basis for a form of government! #monsterdon
Goats AND women? This island has everything we need! #monsterdon
@Lazarou I was definitely disappointed by the normalness of the goats
normal animals need to get the fuck out of here
GOAT! But average sized
Very convenient of the island to put a giant pot RIGHT THERE for them to drop the crab into
Okay so they all ate and now they're back up to full spirits and high energy. I was wrong this is a survival crafting movie
They found food.
And food found them.
#monsterdon
yayy! GIANT CRAB!
The Blue Screening of the group crossing that big branch is cute
Captain Harding pass out drunk next to the campfire
Seen that a few times on the beach...
#monsterdon
It's a good thing they kept that Confederate alive. Who else would know to pull the go-down rope when they wanted to go down. #monsterdon
...is that a stratovolcano?
The seagulls went on to star in Birdemic
#monsterdon
If this island has a polar bear and a mechanical smoke cloud then there will be no satisfactory resolution to this saga
I have a vague recollection of seeing the basket dropping manoeuvre as a child
