@shig I was fortunate to get to meet Ray Harryhausen. Think he was in his late 80's at the time. He came and gave a talk at Paul Allen's SciFi Museum (think it might have been in a EMP theater). He brought along a few of the miniatures he was famous for, including a skeleton from Jason and the Argonauts.
Most of the figures used from Mysterious Island still exist, apparently.

OMG, I think this movie was designed to cash in on Swiss Family Robinson, which was 1960.
Apparently these are not hot air generators, but hydrogen generators. The union used these balloons until 1863 when the balloon corps was disbanded. They got shot at very frequently, but there are no records of a union balloon ever being lost and the union ended the war with all the balloons it ever constructed intact. This explains the lack of a burner.
If they have bothered to save Nemo we could have avoided two WORLD wars and all be eating giant chicken (which I'm sure would have no effect on emissions or what have you)
