@moira makes perfect sense with everyone actually having bugs in their life clocks and stuff too. and so many runners being able to escape - like you can read that either as a sort of continual testing or as it just malfunctioning being able to track them. did the movie explain how the old man got out there or not? i might have missed it. i assumed he was just like actually a successful runner #monsterdon

@moira so like at the end when it's crashing, it isn't really crashing, it's just like making a very clumsy state transition into open city.

then also the fact that nobody remembers anything about the past and the city has no kind of education or training to get them ready to go outside is also a bug, normally it would be doing that but there was like some weird error when it looped through the first cycle of the carousel program that crashed the education system. maybe that's what the abandoned zone for rascals and misbehaving youth was supposed to be - a school #monsterdon

At the end, we couldn't hear the old guy over the music, but I'm pretty sure he was shouting, "The girls think I'm cute! I'm getting laid! I'm getting laid!" Logan was grinning, but these people have casual sex! He'll die of a heart attack before dawn. This was a sad, sad ending.

You can only support so many people at a time in this semi-closed ecosystem you've got, and the _entire thing_ is a breeding pool.

The _entire thing_.

Carousel is a test of whether you're fit to enter adulthood _outside_, once that's possible again.

But Computer never registers outside as being inhabitable again, because so many things are now broken.

1) The outside sensors have been down for centuries because people just _forgot about them_ and didn't bother - much like Box and his fish, or later, birds, or later, runners.

2) But why have outside sensors? All kinds of reasons, including testing for

habitability.

So let's say the world is fucked and this is a vault, but not a vault-tec vault, a serious one.

At first, the outside world is going to be _real hard_ to live in. So you make a straining system for the people who go outside _first_.

And that test is carousel.

They go back into the ruins of the city to find food and water and whatnot and find half a dozen be-carosel'd nerdlings floating helplessly halfway up the blender bottle like "...A little hand here please?" #Monsterdon

Bad news, old man! Now you have to share your city with a bunch of helpless 22 year olds, and you bet your ass they're whiny as hell

they had no mythology about why they were reliquidating themselves when they turned 30? they just did it because the computer said so and never bothered to create a myth about it? that is the least believable part of the movie bc people would have made up some shit to explain that in like the first day #monsterdon

Everything we’ve ever known is destroyed. Our life of debauchery is over. We’ll grow old and ugly. Our bodies will fall apart. There will be consequences. But, hey, we’re free. #Monsterdon

Why am I so angry? I will tell you: because #monsterdon is ever so slowly reeling me in, and I am a free agent, and can control what I participate in.

Must . . . control . . . fist . . . of . . . hashtag.
