Yes, yes, the dude is old, YOU'RE FOCUSING ON THE WRONG THING, GET TO THE CATS ALREADY

This scene with the old man and all the cats here makes me think back fondly to the clowder that used to live on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

OH MY GOODNESS THE OLD MAN IS QUOTING CATS (2019)

If this turns into a musical with a tap-dance number at the end I swear this is my new favourite movie. SKIMBLESHANKS, SKIMBLESHANKS, SKIMBLESHANKS

Here we see the symbol of the nation being used to metaphorically and literally mete out the violence inherent in its system _puffs pipe, soap bubbles float up into the air_

You know, seeing our two future protagonists flee a society based on a worship of youth, powered by hedonism and ignorance, and perpetuated by careless violence built atop that same cultivated ignorance... and having their eyes opened to a larger world when they stumble into the political relics of _the united states_..? That reads differently now than in the 70s, I think.

"Wonder what they were like?" Well, we can tell from this statue, they were very large and liked to sit a lot.

I'm really enjoying the set design in this movie so far. It's doing a surprisingly good job of simultaneously projecting that whole faux-future super-clean visual affect but also looking like places where people might actually live and spend time.

With this many cats in the scene the only logical way for it to proceed is for Michelle Pfeiffer to suddenly appear with a sewing machine and a bullwhip

I've seen Logan's Run so often, both when it was new and every decade since that I can follow along pretty closely as the toots roll along, even though I'm not watching tonight. Sounds like they're into the Peter Ustinov scenes now.

Oh no, the strings are rising and the horn section is cohering, are we about to roll credits?

We ARE O GOD

Those rainbow-hued rotating holograms during the surrogation / interrogation sequence remind me of the ones at the science museums when I was young.

(And we're going with "cognitive dissonance causes literal explosions" as the wrap-up, eh? Seems a little trite.)

Real talk though, with the old man coming out on this fun adventure with our two youngsters, who is taking care of the cats?

Ah, a full 51 minutes until we got to the first slow-motion hallucinogenic orgy sequence.

Thank you as every week for putting this whole wacky adventure together, @Taweret@octodon.social. Always a delight.

Tonight I’ll just be posting the reactions from my wife who’s never seen Logan’s Run.

Well, I didn't watch along with #Monsterdon tonight, but I have seen "Logan's Run" a lot of times!
And visited some of the locations.

I think of it as the last big SF movie before Star Wars. Has all the key elements of a 70s dystopian sci-fi story.

Enjoyed reading the posts!
