After a beach tryst is interrupted, Seymour surfaces and eats a cowboy. Our heroes drive a jeep through one of those wooden barrier things, providing an URGENT SENSE OF ACTION.

For some reason we decide to fill the pacific coasts with naval mines, which sounds way more dangerous to innocent shipping than to a giant octopus. Like, if two ships steer wrong and hit mines you've already done more damage than the monster has.
