Surprising me further, there are two radioactive scarecrows, and they encounter the main Dullards who are taking a nap after eating their turkey. They are captured and dragged into some extremely well lit spaceship, where we meet two Dames who are from space who command the Space Scarecrows and come from a planet several hundred million light years away.

Carrot monsters. Fine. This is like trying to do musical appreciation of Muzak in an elevator.

I am in the minority on this one I guess but I am having fun with this so far. It's stupid but it's *supposed* to be stupid, even for its era.

We'll see about the problematic bits I guess.

Some movies should try to take themselves seriously, this is good example

These army men have better adherence to quarantine and safety regulations, way more than any other more serious sci-fi film. That is not saying a lot.

Too bad Dad’s at Sunday dinnerβ€” he was a teenager when it came out so he’d be able to tell me whether it would have been funny or stupid even back then

...the quality of the comedy in this introduction sequence is, uh, really something, isn't it

😬

Launching a thread for , some movie where I guess aliens invade or something. Monsterdon is a thing where we watch an old monster movie every week and make fun of it. Mute the thread if that's not your thing, I guess.

@JW You deserve to be punished. 50 lashes with a wet spagetti. That was seriously the worst. I mean, the Giant Claw at least had coffee. And Tentacles had hats. This had... the electro hoffala groffala metric and not much else.

@Lazarou I don't know if they would though. They would like the theme of bumbling dumbasses asserting the value of patriarchy, and the unbeckoned racist interlude, but the movie might just be too silly for most of them to like.

The thing about this life business is you can learn from everything. Now I know if I ever need to kiss a large woman to prove to her that carnal pleasure is more important than conquering the earth, I can stand on a "chair" that's actually just a volleyball balanced atop a wire sculpture to reach her lips. #monsterdon

OK, that... um, I don't know what to say about that.

The reviews were accurate, the "comedy" was hella problematic when it wasn't just bad.

I found 2 marginal laughs, but didn't feel good about being unable to supress them.

I'm praying we can all make better choices next week.

Regardless, thanks for sharing in this disturbing experience, and thank you as always @Taweret for hosting.

It's still irking me that there were so many round rocks at the top of the hill. Every round rock after that reminds me and I'm irritated all over again.

i don't know if it's the booze, or because i'm so glad we're finally out of the racism scenes, that i actually found the random sound effects at the control panel kind of amusing? #monsterdon
