It might the 1950s vibes, but I think this movie would pass the Angela Collier test of being a pro-science movie, even if the science is maybe not always right.
It generally shows the scientists in a positive light and overcoming failures as they try to investigate stuff. But I think that might be the 1950s vibes, where scientists were maybe better regarded in movies.

In the aquarium, the dude talks about the cool lungfish in the aquarium and how its a bridge between Fish and Man. Then he talks about how we'll go to other planets one day and we'll need science for that.
One of the science masters is actually a banker in disguise, and he decides to bankroll their river expedition to look for more web handed friends.
