This is all fun and adventurous and whatnot, but I do feel the need to point out that Perseus’s first real use of his invisibility helmet was to sneak into a strange woman’s bedroom to watch her sleep. He might not be a great guy. #monsterdon

What gets me is that this came out AFTER Star Wars. Like, we had an example of PERFECT special effects and they want "yeah, half frame rate is fine, no one will notice"

They do like it when you look at them and say, breathlessly "The most beautiful stallion in the world"

I normally watch the movie Picture-In-Picture in a corner of the screen but I put it to fullscreen to enjoy stop-motion Pegasus.

The compositing/rotoing is better than Krull, I don't know what that says about either movie

This is going to go to his head. Pretty soon, he’s going to think he can kill Medusa.

#Monsterdon these optical mattes are _great_ for 1981

you mostly have switching between closeups on Harry and wide shots of the animated horse + animated Harry, with not too much time on any one cut to notice what's wrong with it ;)

modern CGI stuff would do one giant swooping long take and you'd rolf your lunch up

Confirming that we did watch this in high school English. I thought it might just be Argonauts but I remember Harry Hamlin's chin dimple and the Pegasus. We didn't have much to stand on complaining about special effects because the early 2000s were some of the worst for cgi. I'm more impressed now than as a teen who thought everything sucked

This invisibility helmet is kinda weird like his clothes go invisible but the rope doesn't like is there a distance limit or something? #Monsterdon
