If you have cut rate car insurance, you could be caught paying for this giant grasshopper destruction yourself.

Really? That’s the end. What?!

I guess we’ve been watching too many movies lately that have some kind of denouement. I’ve been spoiled.

I used to work in an emergency lab, but it turned out natural emergencies are just better, so we stopped research.

The bug scientist explains his plan. First he'll attract the locusts to downtown chicago using a speaker on top of the tall building they're hanging out in. Then they'll switch the signal from "skyscraper" to "sailboat" and attract all the locusts into the lake.

I can see many ways this plan might go wrong, but there's only 8 minutes of movie left, so maybe it will work.

Things got better once JJ Bittenbinder started giving the kids hard facts about giant locusts

We found the brown note. The grasshopper shit its pants.

No we don't know where it found pants.

No we don't know which way it wore them.

South sides getting grasshopper action. Cars being smashed, thrusted against, presumably however grasshoppers need hot sexytimes... the south side is doing it for sure!

This is some pretty good army-on-grasshopper action.

Uh-oh. Now it’s grasshopper-on-picnickers action. And that poor woman in a towel would’ve been a star in a King Kong movie. Here she’s just a locust lunch.

Yo dawg I heard you liked to call grasshoppers so I put an audio amplifier in your audio amplifier so you can call grasshoppers while you call grasshoppers.

Because no one can do a convincing giant locust mating call, the bug scientist tells the general he will need a live giant locust for this plan to work. I'm not sure if they've even killed any of the giant locusts, yet, despite all the tank rounds and flame throwers they've employed.

But they army dudes seem willing enough to send One Guy to go with the bug scientist to try to capture and one.

The bug scientist tells us that the bugs slow down when it is cold. This seems to make their plan to attack chicago a bad one, but I guess it's summer now so they won't all freeze to death.

The lead general plans to evacuate Chicago and then nuke it. The reporter suggests driving the locusts into Lake Michigan, and that gives the bug scientist an idea to attract the locusts to the lake with a fake locust mating call.

After a tense battle, the army is defeated. The news guy tells us that the giant locusts have reached the Chicago south side and also no one should panic, so naturally we get a panicked evacuation scene. Some locusts are chasing people and eating them. We get a scene of locusts crawling on a building and another one where a girl in a towel is doing her hair and then is accosted by a locust.

Washington wants us to bomb Chicago. I think I heard a very far away moan from DC just now…

So the rest of the movie just drags on like this. With rather dull machinations of controlling the grasshoppers. Don't say I didn't warn you.
