1. the innkeeper's daughter is kind of an overused trope
2. ...
3. this one has her own song and dance, clearly well-rehearsed, all these drunks know their individual parts... what in the world is going on here

The soundtrack of this film reminds me of that scene in Animal House when John "Bluto" Blutarsky smashes that guy's guitar.

🎡 It was upon a Lammas night when corn rigs are bonny beneath the moon's unclouded light I held awhile to Annie the time went by with careless heed til 'tween the late and early, with small persuasion she agreed to see me through the barley

Corn rigs and barley rigs, And corn rigs are bonny, I'll not forget that happy night among the rigs with Annie 🎡

#monsterdon - Still catching up on comments, this was actually a great movie! Thanks as always to @Taweret for hosting The Wicker Man (1973). We had:
- Nearly Nick Cage as Captain ACAB
- A great combination of "Evil Village meets outsider", "The most Dangerous Game", and "I am curious: whatever color snails are"
- More butts than you could shake a maypole at.
- Christopher Lee! as Rod Stewart! as Ricardo Montalbon!
- Creppy Confection inspiration just in time for halloween.

+ Howie, on the other hand, flies into the harbor, and immediately starts being a dick. When that doesn't instantaneously get him what he wants, he takes out a bullhorn, and starts being a dick, but louder.

At every opportunity, he's rude & disrespectful, makes no effort to earn anyone's trust or learn anything about local customs or traditions outside of 'these people are different from me, and therefore, bad'

The extended version really highlights how authority, divorced from +

@steggy @Taweret the exposition was like 'we bought the island, but then things went south so we mostly encouraged the people that were living here to bring back their old beliefs' and then also 'my grandfather centered himself in that and facilitated it as a way to keep order' so it's like... both i think #monsterdon

Very interesting to me that the writer's pitch for a sequel involved the cop getting rescued at the last second and being the protagonist of the second film. Regardless of how you feel about cops, it feels like if that character doesn't die it makes a lot of that movie have no reason to happen. #Monsterdon

Wait. So, did they plan for him to knock out the tavern owner and steal his costume? Was the whole β€œlet’s put him to sleep with incense” thing just a ruse?

The hair though. I can't get over the hair. He does not look right when he is dressed for whatever contemporary year he is in, basically ever.

He did do a pretty good 70s Dracula, but he just wore a suit.

@CactuarJoe I was kind of assuming they were setting up to do this every year

Somebody would definitely eventually notice all the cops going missing but there's no room for that kind of thinking ahead in #Monsterdon (although this movie seemed to be trying to be more intellectual than our usual fare so who knows)

Excellent dread at being burned alive at the end there, I've had that fear

But the movie mostly made me wish I had occasion to make a papier mache hat

Christopher Lee never came across as ominous in this film. He was a bit different from other characters he’s played, IMO. I liked it.
