The Stuff has two very believable messages:

1) Corporations will sell you literal poison if they think they can get away with it and you shouldn't trust them further than you can spit a brick

and

2) People will literally put anything in their mouths. Anything.

The Stuff is a movie about how many actors clearly not from the south you can get to attempt a southern accent, and the results are fascinating and beautiful #monsterdon

I am not #Monsterdon ing because the entire premise around #TheStuff1985 activates my gag reflex.

Instead, I'm in the "I regret having this idea" stage of making my own magnets for a whiteboard calendar I bought.

(And the only reason I bought the calendar is because there was a goose on it and I wanted to write "it is a beautiful month and you are a horrible goose" on it, so you can see scope creep is a real issue for me.)

⁉️TRIVIAL STUFF πŸ˜‹ 😨 😱

"My main inspiration was the consumerism and corporate greed found in our country and the damaging products that were being sold. I was constantly reading in the newspapers about various goods and materials being recalled because they were harming people."

Ha ha - that was a mess of a movie – much of it was ad libed, and the wrap up didn't make much sense. Somehow they had many prominent name actors involved.

Must have been made during a very dry spell in the movie industry, or someone called in a lot of favours.

Just right for a feature though.

And so they fucked off into a parody of a John Phillips Sousa march.

That was a lot of fun, fam. Some neat special effects, an incoherent script, bad accents, and a stern anti consumerism message. What's not to love?

Anyway, the Owlbear is done. Take care of each other. Be kind, spread love, play indie games.

Be excellent, and goodnight.

⏳ 30 MINUTE POLL

OK, time for the ANSWER!

Which was NOT used to represent The Stuff? Your answers were:
0% Marshmallow fluff
22% Fire-extinguishing foam
56% HΓ€agen DΓ€zs ice-cream
22% Blended fish bones

The CORRECT ANSWER is Marshmallow fluff, not used. In some scenes, a foam made of blended fish bones was used. It stank so much that, as soon as the shots were done, the actors ran to a river in order to wash off the stench.

#monsterdon I saw the best minds of my generation: Once again, for newer folks Wendy's I think it was had a whole big "Where's the beef" ad campaign in the mid 80's that absolutely devoured everyone's attention for a good several months. People were just running around saying "Where's the beef" for no reason and we all laughed and it was awful, just awful.

the "Where's the Stuff" was a nod to that and I think featured the same lady?

edit: Younger folks, I guess newer works as well

I love movies that are clearly satires but I have no fucking clue what they're satirizing? Advertising? Food that looks like cum? #monsterdon
