The Stepford Wives

This town has the most lonely, destitute, and ignored Hitachi Magic Wand saleslady in the entire state. Boxes of D Cells all over the place, nobody who wants any of it.

She's having a broken record moment. *empty headed stare into the void*

Ooh that was a very interesting panning crane shot from the kids running through the underbrush up to the raised pool there! Great way to establish the space, entrances/exits, and the implicit ranking of adults in children in this space in about five seconds flat.

39 minutes into the film so far and it's just been miscellaneous nuanced offkey human interactions

1975. So much polyester. The couches, the suits, the shirts, the women…

I'm a minute or two behind the general feed, having switched streams, but these two ladies chatting over scotch seem to have passed the test.

That brass pillar bedframe is really pretty. It reminds me a bit of a Kuzma Stabi turntable.

That back seat in all those cars, no safety harnesses for the kids. Stupid awful wretched children of 1975. Just watch 'em bounce around, awful children, keeping spunk as pets. And I should know. LOL. Drains for cows milk on feet.

It occurs to me that The Cullens would be right at home in Stepford, a town filled with too perfect, well behaved, people. Stay tuned next week for the fanfic (joking this time).

The lack of gay coding is great. The Men's Association. A Sausage Fest! Everyone going COMMANDO! Careful when you zip too fast, boys.

Feel free to mute me now for a couple of hours, or the hashtag if you want to avoid the stream of commentary about to deluge your feed.

πŸ¦–#MONSTERDON Goodbye!

Thank you @Taweret for hosting this sexy and groovy thriller!

and thanks @Cherizilla for the new cool randomized Bingo cards! Very fun upgrade!! I spent way to much time repeatedly creating marks and deleting them.

And to all the members of the Real Time Film Analysis Squad: Loved the commentary, esp. when ten people hit on the same thing simultaneously! I hope you are able to clear yourself of the creepiness very soon.

"Forbes initially met with Diane Keaton, who he said turned it down because her analyst did not like the script." This sentence from the wikipedia page for The Stepford Wives raises so many more questions than it answers. #monsterdon

the ending i thought they were going for with the "you get to live but you have to go to the women's version of stepford" is much more interesting imo - not in a "women do patriarchy too" kind of way, but as in the women are forced into a projected version of what men believe women want from a man robot, the dynamics of patriarchy never being 'final' but transmuted into a meta-conflict between the governance of two stepfords, contending with gendering as a prism of projecting desire and systematizing someone else as much as something you enact yourself #monsterdon

Y'know, growing up, I had a couple friends who were girls. And I always got shit about it from other boys, to whom having a personal connection with a member of the opposite sex sounded as alien as the Vulcan mind meld.

I always wondered what kind of relationships they grew up to have. #Monsterdon

Still see a lot of the same sentiment today in terms of "I hate my spouse" discourse going on. Not to mention the tradwife bullshit, objectification and subjugation of women, not just in media but coming from shitlib and further right dialog, memes, etc in social media spaces, the real world etc #monsterdon #TheStepfordWives1975

The malfunctioning-robot reveal is unfortunately less chilling than the initial reveal with Bobbie and the scene with the therapist. It's the monster out in bright daylight with all the rubber suit seams showing, instead of unseen and feared.
