Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing crowns is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

Dang, this is a good one. I’m too busy watching to catch most of the posts.

I’m especially struck by how well the stops-motion is incorporated into the story and the live action. It has much less β€œset pieces” feel than β€œJason and the Argonauts.”

#monsterdon That was good fun.

The sword fights were better too. They got better at getting the actor's movements to look like they're really interacting with the stop motion.

And we end with a proper fucking off into the sea! Well, for the crew, not for any monsters. I admit I was a bit distracted by this mamacat needing scritches but I appreciated the flappy fellow and the monster fight.

Goodnight #monsterdon and see y'all next week!

"Have them return to the ship and ensure every man gets wine."

*sidekick makes a gesture with his arm*

Ah yes, the universal back-to-the-ship-and-free-wine gesture.

Really impressed by the pacing so far. Bit past the halfway mark and the stakes are pretty well-established and we've had multiple bits of drama to fill out our second act, and here comes the setup for the third.

All in all I'm impressed by how well every part of this movie is functioning to draw the viewer into the drama (modulo the brownface)

Thank you everyone, that was full of Harryhausen moments, swashes buckling, glistening bosoms (of all genders), and racism, as one would expect from 1973.

Until next time. Special thanks (as always) to @Taweret for hosting!

If anybody is personally familiar with the text of "Sinbad the Sailor" I would love to know more about how this movie follows or deviates from myth.

That kind of analysis has been some of my favorite posting in this little series on ancient mythology we've got going

That was an incredibly dorky movie. XD
4/10 for plot - still not entirely sure what it was besides Bad Guy wants treasure? - but 15/10 for THOSE OUTFITS hot damn

Huzzah! Another voyage complete! Thanks as always to @Taweret for assembling all the pieces of the Harryhausen Amulet, and to the crew for misting down my bosom between scenes.

protips for fighting a wooden monster on your boat:

Don't: try to harpoon it
Maybe: try to chop it with an axe
Don't: let it steal your secret pirate quest map.
Do: try to light it on fire if chopping it doesn't work
Don't: light your ship on fire while trying to light the wooden monster on fire.

Wikipedia says the film grossed $11M, so as far as all movies are investment schemes that produce entertainment as a side effect, this one was a damned fine exercise, 10Xing the budget ain't nothing to sniff at

I award the Golden Voyage of Sinbad 4 out of 5 glowing fountains of youth. It gets +1 points for having Multiple Boats and -1 point for probably displeasing the ghost of Edward Said with Orientalism.

The best character was Koura, who was an evil sorceror but decent employer, but capable of being nice when it served his interests. My favorite monster was the sword-wielding Kali statue, but the little squeaky bat guy was cool too.
