we have seen a lot of movies before, but i think this one challenges the very definition of what a movie is in a new way, where it had essentially none of the components that usually make something a movie except for "an audiovisual artifact between 45 and 150 minutes"

I just finished bingeing the UFO series. So watching this was a trip.
Why did they include some scenes and not others?
They didn't bother trying to explain why certain characters appeared and other disappeared.
It looked like they were setting up story lines and then they just dropped them.
So weird.

When I saw they were using Confetti Check A-OK as part of this thing I kind of figured they were going to do a parallel story of the whole founding of the project (and how Straker's family life fell apart) in parallel with some sort of doubled-up current-day story of the UFOs, making a parallel story tying the trainwreck that is Straker's personal life with the success that is the fight against the UFOs, or something like that, right?
But nah they just chained bits of a few episodes together with some random filler glue and told no story at all

Nobody tell SisqΓ³ what I've done here today.
It's uneven as a series. Some incredibly dull procedural stuff. Lot's of over/under acting. Some seriously heavy stuff. A few genuinely enjoyable episodes.
It's not helped by the fact that the production order didn't match the aired order, so if you don't research a coherent order to watch the show it often makes no sense.
I remember being terrified of some of the sequences and implied gore as a child. None of those feelings in my rewatching.

I am both enraged and overjoyed at the amount of practical effects that went into this #monsterdon (or rather, the show it was based on).
60s Star Trek or Doctor Who would have to reach deep into the money barrel to get a monster costume or a space ship. Meanwhile, SHADO is out here throwing egregious models at the audience in every scene.
Well this movie has yet to be anything close to interesting.
But i would be interested in a coffee table book of the spaceship and other tech designs. Like one of those ancient Terran Trade books.

The series is a LITTLE bit more coherent, but largely driven by mech models, costumes, and vibes, just the same.
BTW, this show was apparently popular in Japan. I have seen multiple references to it in mech anime. Perhaps the biggest was in "Patlabor", where Noa has an elaborate dream based on it.
