I don't worry about being a replaced by a pod person, there's zero chance a plant would survive long enough to grow around me.

That was very enjoyable, and educational. I'm going to keep a closer eye on people from now on. Anyone who doesn't immediately laugh at my jokes is suspect. .

for those who've seen the 80s version, which is better? I think I like the remake. Can't beat that ending

Pod people shouldn't really be fooled by the ol' switcheroo. I mean, it's kinda their trick isn't it?

it is a terrible idea to leave only one person to watch the pod person. That is, at minimum, a two person job.

Okay, we found a pod person but maybe we're not leading him to a trap yet. So maybe they're not all pod people yet. Also, I'm pretty sure that they guy without finger prints seems to have facial features. It's not as spooky as they're describing it.

Also, I'm not sure who to call if you find a pod person. I don't think I'd trust the police to um... do anything about it. Assuming that the police aren't pod people themselves.

Can we call 50s Fox Mulder and Dana Scully?

my retcon will be that the pods had nothing to do with it, and it was just the kiss from the protagonists clay slabs for lips that turned people emotionless and communists. his bad dream was just him continually sleepwalking and making out with everyone. it also explains his intractable horny. #monsterdon

so are the pod people communists in the context of the red scare, or the opposite, prototypical conformist "good americans"?

so why are all the telephone circuits busy?

Is the operator a pod person and just lying? Or are the pod people jamming all the phones with calls out of town (maybe inviting more people to become pod people)?

Oh we found a monster. And also, they called the FBI.

Maybe we'll actually get 50s Scully and Mulder in this movie! Then we'll have more watchable sexual tension!

Becky's very unconcerned about her dad being replaced by a pod person and getting carried out of her house in the middle of the night!

I miss the days when you could just break into a single woman's house and carry her off in the night.

everyone should practice a "woman in 1950s horror movie" scream, just in case. you never know when you'll need it. #Monsterdon

Wait.. how is a "worry of what is going on in the world" supposed to lead to a state where everyone suspects that people near them are not who they are? What is going on in the world?

Is this a tell that the psychiatrist is a pod person, maybe?

And/or is the thing going on in the world Communism? I thought this film was about fear of Communism.

Starting a for . Going to try to live toot it this time instead of pausing to write toots.

So far this movie is starting with... exactly what I would expect from 1950s mental health care, which that it involves a guy in a suit screaming "I'm not insane! I'm not insane!" to people in lab coats while a cop watches.

Gonna guess that the AMAZING TWIST is that the people the main guy is telling his story too are also like... evil space pod people.

Y'know, I kinda wonder what the end of the pod people's lifecycle looks like. Y'think maybe after a couple of years they just... Root themselves, open their mouths skyward, and vomit out a seed so hard it breaks orbit? #Monsterdon

HAPPIER ending: "Jack Finney's novel ends with the extraterrestrials, who have a lifespan of no more than five years, leaving Earth after they realize that humans are offering strong resistance, despite having little reasonable chance against the alien invasion.[2]" Wikipedia #monsterdon

got distracted during again and missed part of it.

I *might* come back and watch it later, or maybe not. I am less engaged with this movie, even though it is reputed to be a famous classic.
