@davesdogmaggie It doesn't seem like it was an extended process though. Like, I'm guessing there wasn't a stretch of time where he could have realized "oh hey I'm on my way to inventing something that destroys oxygen, I should probably stop before I get it to work, huh". I imagine the process being that he was tinkering with some chemicals or whatever and suddenly realized at some point "oh crap, this is destroying oxygen". At that point all he can do is pretend it didn't happen, which he *almost* did here.
Granted I don't think we can really tell for sure from the movie (unless I missed something)

This Godzilla film is full of misery, quite sad
The choir singing and the people being tended to in the shelter makes everything feel more serious and real and awful, in a great way, something I don't feel like happens in the later films #Monsterdon #Godzilla #gojira

The footage of the completely flattened city is even more sobering when you think about how there were people in the audience when this premiered that saw the ruins of Hiroshima and Nagasaki first hand just a few years prior. #Monsterdon #Gojira

I gotta say it is particularly hard to imagine how the Oxygen Destroyer could be used to benefit society (maybe aside from this one super specific use case of fighting Godzilla), but props to eyepatch guy for trying
First time dorsal plate glow is underwhelming but also so weird. He has a radioative glowing tell for his fire great attack. But it also works well with the fires of the city in black and white. The destruction he causes is a part of his very body.

Everyone at the shelter injured sleeping, crying, etc really shows the horror of disasters and war, the pieces left behind after intense destruction. It's really well done, but it hurts my soul it's so well portrayed.

#monsterdon At this point the planes are a bit late to prevent any further disaster, and Godzilla is already leaving... it makes sense to continue the attack if they think there is a chance of preventing a future attack, but given how little damage even direct hits from tank cannons seemed to have, missiles don't seem to hold much promise either. Too little, too late.
