It’s gonna take a bit extra to peg that it’s H-bomb radiation. As radiation is radiation. But I tip my hat to the plot and move along… LOL

(165 feet ~= 50.3 meters)

A building story is roughly 4m (14 feet), so by reckoning from the photo in this scene Godzilla should stand about 12.5 stories tall.

I respect the way this focuses on how the events affect these people.
And also we get to meet Gojira.
It’s perfect!

wow, getting definite Tobe Hooper Poltergeist scene vibes from the guy screaming in the mud. Just like when Diane ended up in the pool construction with all the coffins popping to the surface.

Odo Island. Okay. Uh, another synchronicity that chases me here. Also, . Ahem. Which we are currently bingeing. Ahem.

"If nuclear testing continues, then somewhere in the world another Godzilla may appear."

For the slower viewers that had trouble grasping the message here....

wow that was genuinely sad, and also a movie that made sense and was well done in every regard, truly a #monsterdon outlier in that it is both perfectly representative of the genre and nothing like it

Man. It just struck me how *weird* this series gets at times. Like, THIS was how it started and ten years later we've got Godzilla rocket drop-kicking King Kong O_o; #Monsterdon

since the oxygen destroyer seems to be easily shielded by stuff like scuba suits and aquarium glass, maybe it wasn't such a weapon of mass destruction after all, so serizawa's sacrifice was even more tragic #monsterdon

I think dude lost his eye to an unusually blunt metaphor >_> #Monsterdon

That same stare was also used to fantastic effect in Kurosawa's IKIRU to convey a not-dissimilar emotional state, reconsidering the purpose of one's own life in the face of a terminal diagnosis

Godzilla takes down the gigantic TV tower - complete with still-reporting journalists. Bloody hell.

(I had not known how stunningly *bleak* this film was. For all the goofy rubber-suit monster shots, the sight of a city in the midst of a firestorm, and the smaller human vignettes - blimey.) #monsterdon

people talk a lot about the atomic bombing of hiroshima and nagasaki irt godzilla, which is obviously important, but tokyo was very much firebombed in that war as well. like these flames over the city... that happened

nothing like a movie with tanks in the streets and entire cities being bombed into nothingness to work out a little WWII trauma. #monsterdon

The electric 'fence' is an enormous coastal line of massive, closely-packed high-voltage electrical pylons. (I couldn't tell if it was a really good matte or a really good model!) #monsterdon

Yamane so good, his knee-jerk reaction to trying to kill Godzilla is γ€Œη„‘η†γ§γ™οΌγ€, the thought wouldn't have even occurred to him and he's repulsed by such a crude reaction.

His feelings will, of course, evolve…but right now he's just a scientist faced with a humbling force of nature and awed by it.

Most people don't realize that this is an anti-war movie couched as a monster movie. The american version, which was the only one you'd see in north america for decades until *2004* was stripped of all the anti-war allegory and made an American the star. Yes, it's dark. Yes, it's grim. It's telling the story in the only way the american and japanese media censorship would allow. #monsterdon #gojira
