Fun fact: Magatama are comma shaped "jewels" carved from various stones, but predominately jade. They first appeared in prehistoric Japan and were regularly included in burials during the Final Jomon period, approx 1000 BCE. By the end of the Kofun period (6th century) they had developed significant religious significance to those in ancient Japan.
