I'm not quite sure how I feel about the subconscious manifested monster reveal. I don't exactly like how the captain just figures out what has happened and then explains it to the audience in a monologue.

(he explains that the Doctor gets mad and then the monster is summoned and he's mad at his daughter for her disobedience and that's why the Id monster is after them).

The daughter is mad at her father for not telling the astronaut boys about the dangerous Id monsters or something. Anyway, because the doctor is upset the Id monster manifests again and starts approaching the doctor in the glass house, so they turn on the shutters, that it starts breaking through.

They ask Robby to kill it, but he can't, because the Id monster is his other self. So the captain, the doctor and the daughter run to take shelter in the alien laboratory.

The doctor explains that the Krell had explained their project and made a giant machine, but they were attacked by Monsters from the ID. Then he dies. Doctor M shows up to say "I've warned you!"

In a weird conversation it is explained that the Id monsters were from the Krell psyche and the machine manifested them in reality to kill them, and the invisible monster is also an Id monster... but (it is implied) a recent monster produced from the Doctor's psyche.

Standard space battle tactics involve walking up to the monster you're fighting one by one

We detect a thing approaching on the radar and all the astronauts go into Waiting-for-Attack mode; some of them grab pipe shaped energy rifles and while the field gun crews swirl their rectangle guns around. They deduce that they are facing an invisible enemy.

However, when it steps into their forcefield, they can see its outline, and it looks a bit like a bulldog made out of fire. It eats one of the astronauts, then they concentrate fire on it and drive it away with their guns.

Offscreen, the astronauts have investigated this situation off screen, which I kind of like, because it means they've put together all the details that the audience has put together. They have made a cast of the footprint and it looks like a big dinosaur footprint. They explain that it is evolutionarily implausible because it looks like a quadruped foot but walked like a biped, which I don't quite get, but okay.
