he created that himself. maybe even as he was dying. confronted with his subconscious, confront_ing_ his subconscious, he gained a little more control over his power and in doing so brought his own death - but was able to build that before dying.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about the subconscious manifested monster reveal. I don't exactly like how the captain just figures out what has happened and then explains it to the audience in a monologue.

(he explains that the Doctor gets mad and then the monster is summoned and he's mad at his daughter for her disobedience and that's why the Id monster is after them).
