CBC occasionally airs films of productions from the Stratford Festival, but doesn't seem to have them on CBC Gem. Which is unfortunate, as this version of The Tempest starring Christopher Plummer would make a nice companion piece to tonight's #Monsterdon

There were some really cool effects for the 1950s, but huge stretches of it were pretty boring. Part of why I didn't really have anything to say for the last half hour. I found myself wishing the movie was a little worse, as that would be more interesting. #monsterdon

surprise part of watching this on a european blue-ray is how many copyright warning languages you get at the end of the film

Really nice visual effects, they held up. The single woman character who is constantly sexualised and bossed around and defined by her relationships to men, not so much. #Monsterdon

The movie would be better if we could scrape out the misogyny and horny dudes with a sharpened spoon, but the premise, props, sets ideas and special effects lived on in every scifi movie and series you've seen since then
