The moral of the story is that even when you find the egg chamber and torch the monsters there's still gonna be that little girl who wandered out of the desert nearly catatonic messed up for life. Because of nukes #monsterdon

#monsterdon If you think about it this is even more impressive than the effects from the 50's "The thing" because they had to have a giant stunt-ant inside the fireproof costume to accomplish this shot. Nerves of steel.

Not only are they going to die from the CO coming out of their motors, formic acid decomposes into carbon monoxide and water, which is why containers of 98% formic acid are shipped with self-venting tops. #TheMoreYouKnow

The sound track makes it really obvious how sound is used today versus then. In this film, the most loud and dramatic music is when NOTHING is happening. They're driving from point A to B. There are no monsters, etc. In a modern film, the crescendo would be when the monsters APPEAR and the climactic battle is happening.

Was it uncouth to say β€œpants” in mixed company in the 50s?

Now, learn from 1982’s The Thing. Let them BURN! ;) don’t put them out shortly afterwards with extinguishers!

His flamethrower was still smoking from the tip, during their dialogue. That’s a pretty cool touch from the special effects department.
