Anyway this concludes my thread for the Monster That Challenged The World, a very inaccurately titled film.

I guess the lesson was "if you're a giant snail, don't eat swimming apes, or the swimming apes might retaliate by genociding your entire species". And conversely, if you're being attacked by a giant monster try using a pointy stick.

@bstacey This is one of those things which I expect would have been much more reasonable to people when the movie was made, I believe that's a steam pipe used for either heat or power.

As I understand it, a lot of things used to be powered using steam power, instead of everything having its own electric motor in it, so people used to be a lot more used to having steam pipes everywhere.

How do they know they killed all of them?

So many questions.

Thanks @Taweret for hosting, and to all the kids: Don't go swimming there!

This movie is actually an educational film about the dangers of letting children in your research lab.

This part of the movie is a tragedy, where the Ladybug Girl's noble motivations (keep rabbits warm) led to ironic disaster (monster eats rabbits).

I would not have had "helicopter finds monsters by spotting giant cum slick on the water" on my bingo card for this

The whole premise of this movie is there are creatures we don’t understand who have killed people, and the authorities are doing everything they can to eradicate them. They haven’t once suggested trying to study and understand the creatures.

How dare you killed the monster! This is California! You have any idea how much trouble you're in in 40 years when we have strict endangered species laws?

This movie includes the only extended Canal Operations Sequence I've seen in a movie, where they close some canal doors. This makes the monster scream because it was almost trapped. A second old man in a hat appears to be yelled at the police for almost stopping it.

I appreciate the misdirection of the kids. I really can't find a lot of fault with the writing. The premise is terrible, but the writing is ok.

This is exactly how you get Night of the Lepus and I am not willing to be that bored

What I didn't tell any of you was that I'm typing on my laptop while watching the movie on my phone, so I can pick the movie up and walk with it when I wander the house looking for where I left my Junior Mints

I can't believe they had the budget for a proper helicopter shot even if it was stock footage and then sitting on the ground with the camera pointing up.

I hope I didn't embarrass you with my real human emotions sir

I switched over to the English audio while I made myself a cup of tea, and I enjoy Doctor Rogers's performance enough that I've keep it on.

Yea, I'm into this.

We're keeping the egg in the lab. We're going to observe it until it hatches, then we'll all be grievously injured

Sir, there's some kind of thing from a flyer for a Misfits show down here
