I saw the original LITTLE SHOP OF HORROR long before the musical remake, so I had forgotten just how terrible it is. Even if you make allowances for what they called "sick humor" around 1960, failed jokes only remind you what a precious gift true comedy is. Those were some unfunny performances, with the possible exception of the cops of clipped cadence, and maybe the hypochondriac mother in the dinner date.

Audrey Jr, the hungry, hungry flower was the true star, from the cute little Belgian endive in a coffee can, to the massive corpse flower (literally!) mockingly unfurling the faces of its victims. Kudos to the ones who saw there was a gem in the rough.

Still, I'm one of the ones who voted for this #Monsterdon , so I shouldn't be so hard on it. Thanks everyone for watching, and thanks @Taweret for hosting.

Weird World Of Wink Wilkerson reminds me of modern podcasts that should really be fucking video since they're trying to describe shit that needs to be fucking seen. For fucks' sake.

@Fragglemuppet Personally I tend to ignore that line of thought during #Monsterdon ... it makes it more fun for me to experience the movie "organically" than to try to reconstruct how viewers in its day would have thought of it

Though it's very rare that I've seen any version of a #Monsterdon movie before

Ever think of older pop culture and how it might've been received when it was new instead of just an old curiosity? Like tonight's #Monsterdon for example. We mostly know the 80s movie and play, and some of us learn about the 1960 movie and watch it just for the novelty, knowing the story and doing comparisons. But what about people in 1960 who didn't know what was coming?

I think about that with a lot of older things like that.

@jonny the stage musical ends with *everyone* getting eaten because it's an alien plant, and the final song implies that its going to take over the earth

This was definitely some of Roger Corman's finest work. Cheesy yet incredibly dark humor!

Thank you for laughing along everyone, and thank you @Taweret for hosting another great #Monsterdon. See you all next week!
