Y'know, that would've been much more satisfying as an ambiguous ending where nobody finds a weakness for the Triffids. The ending should've been Our Stout Hero reunited with his new family, happiness tempered by the knowledge that this new world they have to survive in is incredibly hostile. That hope still exists, but it'll be a hard climb.
