Back in the home, we see writer guy trying to write a book and watching a live TV of himself while monolog-ing about metaphorical wolves.

Also it is halloween and the son is at school dressed as a pirate, but is sad. The other kids are having a ninja versus prisoner scythe battle; the teacher checks on him because he is sad.

Back home writer guy's wife drags him off to a Halloween party and gives him an elephant costume.

AS I'm sure you know, the book this was based on claimed to be the non-fictional account of author Whitley Strieber's encounters with aliens. Christopher Walken is playing the author. It's just a coincidence that Strieber's preferred writing technique is to mimic Christopher Walken.

Grunting guy, who I will probably just start calling "G'Kar" like everyone else, is freaked out by the bright lights and wants to go home, so they all go home.

#Monsterdon Unbelievable. Seconds after I posted a toot about their pie burning, I noticed that my OWN house was filling with smoke because I had burned my (pizza) pie.

I don't know what this movie is about, but I hope the rest of it doesn't come true.

both couples eventually go to bed, and then Spooky Music commences. We see the door keypad thing light up and blink. Some lights turn on outside.

Writer Dude gets up and sneaks around, then sees a Sectoid-like peek at him from behind a cabinet. Or did he? maybe it was an illusion. Then a spotlight shines in the window and wakes up the grunting guy and also the child.

See honey I told you we needed dual 1000 watt floodlights so we could see absolutely nothing.

In the 80s, all little kids in movies looked like that.

@floatybirb @Lazarou i guess they remain as schrodinger's monster since they're all 'maybe it's real or maybe it's all in his head'. the little blue guys WERE pretty good. the grey alien with half its mask-face removed was creepy as hell.

since this is based on the true story of things a guy says he experienced, though, i think it's harder to suspend your disbelief if you don't believe in aliens-are-real-and-here. for me it puts the movie aliens firmly in the 'not real within the movie' category.

ugh, what an absolute waste of every single person's time. when aliens actually do come to earth, i'm gonna show them this movie, and the entire galaxy is gonna treat us like our planet has the plague. this movie is so bad it had tainted humanity.

but i think the overall story where his and then both his and his wife's beliefs about what happened and what's true change over time as they like... learn to keep living and cope, spend some time possibly getting false memories from hypnosis, and figure out how to repair their relationship; it's just very INTERESTING the way they come to think the aliens are maybe positive after all. making peace with it all etc.

I don't know what I just watched, but it was somewhere between really good and really bad. I am going to feel creeped out for at least a week, if not more.
